Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic 用户反馈:

用户打分: 用户总结: NEVER Update it! 用户评语: Amazon was great but this Garmin (765T) has serious problems. I had 2.
Both of these units lasted one day. I registered and ran the updater as recommended.
Firmware update went fine, well the program ran fine but nowhere does it tell you that the update never really applies until you go though the menu and open the files where the update was applied. Until you do, the web updater will keep telling you that you have the old version installed. Once you open the files then all is well.
Due to timing, this purchase included the new 2010 Maps. This is where it went downhill. Downloaded the file, self extracted and went to install - first unit failed at 97%, second unit failed at 65%. After failure you get a nice message "System Software Missing", unit shuts off an will not restart. Tried all the recommended start prcedures..Type 1) touch screen, lock button, plug in usb....nothing. 2) Hold power button "on" for 1 minute +.....nothing.
Apparently there is no real reset button and you have do try these procedures.
Called Garmin support twice - and you have to be on hold for 35 minutes listening to a recording before you get a person. People were very nice but offered no solutions. Garmin would not sent a new until they recieved the defective one (I would have to pay freight charge to return the less than day old unit)
I will return to Amazon and look for a different model. Too bad I had heard good things about Garmin. Looks like they cycle in and out too may models and do not work on getting them right. Also, look at the officially supported bluetooth phones - there are very few. Wait for the next new models, they are out May 20th and if those are bad new ones will be six months behind.
Major flaws. NEXT.
用户打分: 用户总结: Not what I expected 用户评语: After reading many reviews of other owners of this same product and extensively researching similar products, I was excited to get the Garmin Nuvi 765T. From the moment of opening the box, the experience went downhill. First, I should say that though this is my first car based GPS, I am an experienced GPS user and have been acquainted with GPS equipment for over 10 years for both work and play.
I purchased this unit for my girlfriend who being relatively new to Seattle is still adjusting to the local traffic patterns and finding ways around it. I selected this unit for three primary reasons:
1. GPS navigation
2. Live Traffic and re-routing
3. Handsfree Bluetooth
The unit was easy to use and get started with. Very intiuitive menu, however, if you like detailed instructions around in case you want to learn more you won't find them in the box. Instead, Garmin points you to their website where you can download the full instructions. I did this after a few hours and was disappointed that they did not provide much in the way of details there either.
The screen is smaller than I imagined. It is slightly larger than the screen of an iPhone, which at arms length is not very readable. However the unit did offer automatic dimming features or you can dim it for night or day driving. We found that the screen did not have any anti-glare features and any glare made it difficult to see. We both have 20/20 vision.
The windshield mount is handy and easy to use, but keep in mind you have some pretty thick cords to get to the lighter outlet so you can charge it. A 4 hour battery life is not that long but probably enough for daily commutes for most. We were able to mount the unit on the dash with the provided suction cup (a smooth portion of the dash anyway) and it held just fine.
We found the screen to be pretty touchy...by that I mean that when you are entering the private code to unlock the unit it often misreads your touch. We learned quickly to be very careful about where we touched the screen. Any variation and your code will be mis-entered and the unit locks up. This happens about 25% of the time, which is enough to be frustrating. Even when you enter it perfectly the unit sometimes does not immediately record your touch...so say you are entering a 4 digit code. When you press the first digit the number turns a different color so you know you pressed it. Then you press the second number and it may or may not turn a different color for several seconds...sometimes in excess of 10 seconds. If you try to press the second number again, it records both touches but doesn't indicate that it was touched for several seconds. The result is you entered the second number twice, which is not what you want. So you wait to enter the 3rd number, etc. If you are patient and get it correct, you will take about 30+ seconds to unlock the unit so you can use it. This is a nifty anti-theft feature but Garmin needs to work out some bugs on this before it is really useful. The screen was otherwise easy to use but there were some quirks. Say you go to touch the screen and you hit a pothole so your finger "brushes" the screen. Well, depending on where it brushed the screen you are now in some other menu or option rather than seeing what you need to see.
I should say that both of us are very device savvy. I with my Blackberry and her with her iPhone...we don't have issues using electronic devices in general.
On to the navigation....When using the unit in open areas (no buildings or trees around) it seems to work fine. However, when we drove into downtown Seattle the unit went haywire. It was constantly re-routing and turning us in circles (had we followed its advice). Seattle has some big buildings but it should be able to work around that to some extent. We found the unit to simply not work well in the city and we muted it as we drove to our destination using the iPhone map instead. I tracked the Nuvi's route to see if it was correct, and it was not. We allowed the unit to acquire a signal well before we left our home and gave it a couple minutes to calculate the route. Needless to say, we were not impressed.
We also used it to navigate to Camano Island about 1.5 hours north of Seattle. It did fine on the freeway and was handy to help us keep track of our speed in relation to the posted speed limits. In fact, it was dead on...changing the speed limit exactly as we passed the speed signs. This was impressive...but it cannot factor in temporary speed changes for construction, etc. It got us to our destination (more or less) and back without too much trouble, but it did mis-route us once, recommending a back road that was pretty rural looking. So, once again, we trusted our phone navigations and they correctly got us to our destination with no sketchy backroads. I must say, I want this device to keep my girlfriend on established routes, not some back country options. If she gets a flat or has an issue on an infrequently traveled lane, that is not really acceptable to me. I'd prefer it if Garmin could find a way to use the main arteries for the routes and offer backroads as an option if your comfortable with that.
About the live traffic feature...this was for the most part, a waste of money. The unit incorrectly guaged the traffic about 75% of the time whether in the city or on the highway. This is a major issue if you live / drive in or near Seattle. We found that it underestimated delays. For example it told us that it would take 45 minutes to get home from Camano Island with a 10 minute traffic delay. The trip took 1 hour 25 minutes...so it was off by 30 minutes. For a 1.5 hour trip, this is a substantial miscalculation especially when considering that the difference in time was not attributable to the traffic, it was just the time necessary to travel that distance. Both my Blackberry (using Google Maps) and the iPhone, also using Google maps, correctly guaged the trip time and told us exactly where the traffic would be. At this point, I'm wondering why I purchased the GPS...
About the Bluetooth...we were able to pair the iPhone with no problems. It quickly downloaded the phone book and the unit was able to tell us if a call was coming in with a very handy screen feature. However, the unit did not project the sound of the caller at all. We could speak to them, but we could not hear them through the Nuvi at all. We tried using the Nuvi's speaker - the same speaker it uses to give you voice directions - and we used the FM stereo feature to push the call through the car speakers. Neither option worked. So, I got online to find Garmin's tech support line which leads to my decision to return the unit.
Garmin clearly doesn't want to hear if you are having any issues. Their published call center hours are 8am to 4pm Monday - Friday. So if you have trouble in the evening or on the weekends your out of luck. Compared to Tom Tom, who has extended call center hours and Saturdays, this was disappointing. So, I waited until they opened and called. The tech support line was jammed...it took about 15 minutes (timed in the middle of the afternoon) to get to a live person. The person was friendly and helpful but ultimately said that the unit was probably malfunctioning for the bluetooth feature. They did confirm the other features (Navigation and Traffic) were working properly however and that the issue with the bluetooth had no impact on the other issues I was having with the unit.
So - if you read some positive reviews about the Garmin Nuvi, I recommend you proceed with caution. For the most part, this unit failed to meet any of our expectations. For the price, it was not worth it. We returned it promptly for a refund, not an exchange.
Using iPhone and Blackberry, we now navigate around town just fine and we are adequately informed by our phones and Google where the traffic really is and how long it will take us to get where we want to go. I was sure, after reading the reviews and talking with experts that the GPS would be superior to the phones, but it is not.
You should know, that if you have a phone that supports web and your phone contract allows for unlimited web browsing that you can get Google maps on your phone for free (except for any usage charges from your cell carrier, if any). My recommendation to you is skip the GPS until they work out some issues and use your phone to navigate. You'll save yourself time, frustration and alot of cash. Buy yourself a good bluetooth headset and learn how to use the traffic feature on your Google mobile maps and your set to go!
If you still decide to go with a GPS unit, save yourself some cash and get the entry level model without the traffic or bluetooth options...they just don't work well enough to be helpful and you will end up not using them anyway so why pay more for features you can't or won't use.
用户打分: 用户总结: The Worst GPS in the World 用户评语: After reading reviews on a number of GPS models, I bought the 765T as a step up from a very basic Nextar unit which has worked well for me. I wanted the advantages of a text-to-speech feature which did more than say "Turn right in 2000 feet". The ability to get rid of a separate hands free unit and its charging cord was a big plus as well. The ability to have an MP3 library on a 16 gig card that played through the FM radio and was overridden when the GPS needed to talk and which played in the background was also desireable.
The lane assist feature assuming it works as described would solve a problem I have had more than once, at a complicated junction especially on an interstate at 65 mph of bearing onto the wrong lane and then going sometimes miles before you can get turned around.
The Garmin was delivered at 4 PM by Fedex. I filled out an RMA form at Midnight.
I updated the firmware before I even took the unit to the car. That seemed to go well. Then I tried to download the map upgrade. Bad decision...it never did install, froze and crashed my computer three times. At that juncture, I went out to the car. Windshield mount must have been designed by a rock climber. It really attached securely and felt solid and fixed in placed. Settings seemed pretty intuitive.
Bluetooth didn't pair with my Treo 700p even though it is listed as compatible and shows as a choice on the Garmin's settings. It would recognize the Treo and as it went to pair it shut down and recycled the Treo so it never would pair. I had a Motorola T505 in the car that had no difficulties pairing with the Treo. I then used a Katana II with the Garmin. No problems. It downloaded my phone book, worked fine.
Now for the horror story:
I picked out a POI, a convenience mart 5 miles from my home, that I have been going to for 15 years. It is three turns, .1 mile down my street, left onto a state route for 4 miles and then left for .9 miles to the mart. The 765T routed me a mile away from the mart with two extra turns, each taking me further away from the POI.
I then set out to test its ability to recalculate. Set it to take me home, and intentionally went the wrong way. It would show the original route and speak the turns while I was 1.5 miles off route. Its refresh lag was mind boggling. If I drove without stopping other than very briefly at stop signs, it did eventually reroute me. In three straight line deviations (mixed metaphor) it told me to follow directions 2 out of three times that were taking me further away from my home. All of this on city streets that have been there for 30 years (so no newly built roads). If I made multiple turns as one might when lost or confused in a strange city, it lagged way behind never seeming to lock on my location and reroute me. It would after 3-4 minutes and then almost invariably do it wrong. If I made 3-4 turns in the space of 2 minutes and pulled over to stop because I was lost, it didn't find me at all or recalculate. I was just MIA. This was a disaster happening to me where I knew the streets and knew it was not giving me correct instructions. Imagine being 500 miles from home in another city. You might as well have blind seeing eye dog leading you.
I wrote all of this up on a tech support form, when I had finished and hit submit...it went to "page wouldn't load" and all my data was gone. At that point I filled out return and refund request form and the unit goes back to Amazon. I could not tell anyone to buy from Garmin. The feature selection was impressive. The issues with map upgrade, terrible in use experience , and an on line support system that failed means I won't be buying another unit from Garmin. I know others have had good luck with Garmin, but we all are the product of our own experiences. Mine was dreadful! If there were a way to give it no stars, that would have been my rating. A GPS that can't give good directions is a $300.00 paperweight.
用户打分: 用户总结: Avoid this unit. 用户评语: Like many others, my 765T died and had to be sent to Garmin for a fix. Still waiting on it. I updated it, since it was nagging about old maps, and it then lauched into the "updating firmware" screen. It powered off, and that was it. Dead. Very disappointed in this unit. Previous units from Garmin have been much much better.
When it was working, I had only two complaints:
Low speaker volume: barely audible, even in a quiet vehicle.
Battery life: just over an hour, tops. I know, you just plug it in, but geez...
用户打分: 用户总结: Very poor routing and unstable 用户评语: This is my third Garmin unit in the last 10 or so years. My last one was a StreetPilot 2720, which I still use and love, while my wife primarily uses this 765T and I do when we drive her car.
This review is based mostly around the NJ/NY metropolitan area.
I really wanted to like this unit, but my wife and I both hate it:
1. Routing is really terrible, especially compared to the 2720. The routes are so convoluted sometimes, it makes absolutely no sense at all. This is a frequent occurence, while with the 2720, it was a pretty rare occurence.
2. It's slow to refresh, especially compared to the 2720.
3. It gets caught behind quite a bit. The 2720 lets you know ahead of time that a turn is coming up, then again about 3 to 5 seconds before you actually have to turn. This one warns you the first time, but the second warning comes 1 second before to several seconds AFTER you were supposed to turn.
4. As others have said, the traffic feature is a nightmare. It constantly changes it's mind, and it will take you on the most insane side routes to avoid what it thinks is traffic. The side routes always take longer than your common sense. These avoidances have increased our travel times significantly so many times, we finally just turned it off.
5. The bells and whistles such as lane assist are sort-of useless since it only shows up in about 1 or 2% of situations.
So overall, a real piece of crap, I'd say. The basics are so poor, and it has ADDED time to our trip so many times, we cringe when we need to rely on it for a trip, and especially when we think we bought the "Top of the line."
For all you out there thinking about a new GPS device, do something I forgot to do: buy something cheap with the basics because all the state of the art technology usually takes some time to iron out, and you can buy it for half price later.
