Garmin's nüvis pack top of the line features into a slim form factor. | Enhanced MSN Direct Content An integrated receiver allows you to access enhanced dynamic content from the MSN Direct service. Check the weather, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when you travel with your unit. Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send custom to your nüvi. - Free 3-month trial subscription to MSN Direct services, activation instructions provided

Multi-Destination Routing Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen
| This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.
Where Am I? Where's My Car? The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?"
At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, the nüvis in the 700 series automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. See Better, See More The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
First Rate Map Data The nüvi 780 is preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nüvi 780's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Beyond Navigation Browse your stored pictures with an easy-to-use JPEG viewer. | A handy MP3 player lets you play songs stored on SD memory cards. | nüvi accepts custom points of interest (POIs). View larger. | Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 780 features travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, MP3 player, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.
This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.
Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras. Trick Your GPS Ride Custom vehicle icons let you ride in style, at least inside your GPS. See more icon option | Like all nüvis, the 780 supports configurable vehicle icons. These fun, customized car-shaped icons come in a variety of colors to add a personal touch to your vehicle's position on the map. With this GPS system on board you'll be prepared to steer clear of traffic with the integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. The nüvi is designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.

Garmin nüvi 780 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with MSN Direct Service 用户反馈:
|
用户打分: 用户总结: Junk 用户评语: This was a replacement for a Magellan GPS I let my sister talk me out of. I used the NUVI for a relatively short trip to Fairfax, VA ... the trip was pretty straight forward but the GPS had me all over the place with annoying voice directing me to several off ramps after I got to my destination, POI's where out of place or the directions completely off base It could have been the rain causing it to loose the satellite, I dunno. The other problem I had was that to store trips I to plug in every city name rather than just use the zip code ... terribly time consuming.
用户打分: 用户总结: HOW TO BUY A GARMIN PRODUCT 用户评语: My long time Street Pilot died recently, and like a lot of other people here that set me on the long search for a new and better product. Thanks to all who have posted here, and thanks to Amazon for giving real people the ability to write reviews.
What I've found is this: Garmin comes out with a product, apparently rushed to market, and it has bugs. Over the next months and years, Garmin struggles to fix the bugs. When they are finally fixed, Garmin rushes a new buggy product to the market, and the cycle repeats.
That means, don't necessarily trust the Starred reviews. You have to look at the most recent reviews, not the older ones. The more recent reviews, of course, should be from the users who have the bug-free edition. So, when buying, look at the most recent reviews, the last 6 months to a year. Don't buy anything absolutely new, because you will have to deal with Garmin service then, and we all know what happens when that happens. Ugh! Why don't they fix that too?
Also, be careful not to think that the latest version is the higher number. Not so. I can see no rhyme or reason how Garmin numbers it's systems. 1450 may be a much later edition of the 1490, and so on. And why so many versions anyway? We all know what we want. A great GPS system, good voice, bluetooth, traffic, etc. If someone ever comes up with it, they will sell billions.
Oh, one more thing. On my old Streetpilot there was a button for voice, where "Molly" would repeat what she just said. A great button if you are listening to the radio or otherwised missed the announcement. Not so, though on any Nuvi, as far as I can tell. Got to listen to her the first time, or miss it.
That said, my Nuvi 780 is not a good product. I can't see the screen well on the dash, because it has terrible glare regardless of how I turn it. (My old Streetpilot could be seen from either seat.) The sound of the voice is so terribly tinny I can't stand it. and can't imagine listening to it for the next many years. Sort of like having my ex-mother-in-law drive everywhere with me. Also, the sound simply is not loud enough. One of my cars is a Jeep, and while I haven't tested it in the Jeep yes, I already know I'll never hear the system. I'll have to keep picking it up and putting it next to my ear. Not the way I want to drive. Even in my Ford Escape I can't here it well.
The Bloothtooth did link up with no problems, though, and that's a plus.
So, I'm returning it, and I've already received my next trial, the 265WT. I like it so far. Great voice, very strong and loud if I want it to be, though she does speak faster than "Molly" did on my old Streetpilot, sort of like I have to turn NOW! Oh well, I'm married, so I'm used to it.
Bluetooth hooked right up. Good screen visibility. I'm still testing other features, and will let you know.
Thanks Amazon for your great and easy return policy.
Hope this has been of help to others.
UPDATE: March 2010
I had to return Garmin 265. I had hoped for better and was disappointed. I ended up locating a Garmin Street Pilot which I thought they didn't make. Bought it here, a 7 inch version, and I feel at home with it. No way to update it though. And I'll probably have to buy another in a few years. But I am pleased with this for now. A long road to find something decent.
用户打分: 用户总结: Many Bluetooth issues 用户评语: FYI, if the Bluetooth feature is important to you (you are paying extra for it) you s/b aware that many phones and Blackberry's have serious bluetooth issues with Garmin Nuvis. Many will only connect one time (after power on) and when it does connect, they drop easily. See blogs and search the internet about these issues before you purchase.
Garmin tech support seems helpless and is incapable or unwilling to get these issues resolved. They can't tell you if or when these issues will be addressed. They can't tell you which phones will work perfectly without a problem. Even their so-called compatible phones can have issues.
If you have similar issues, please complain loudly and bitterly. Maybe if this issue starts affecting their sales they will a do a much better job of giving this issue the serious attention and resources it needs. Right now all they do is try to backdate you to an older version of Bluetooth s/w (which didn't work) or they tell you to keep watching their websites for bluetooth upgrades but can't tell you when, if ever, these issues will be resolved.
BUYER BEWARE.
用户打分: 用户总结: Poor Routing 用户评语: I have had this GPS navigator for about six months and the routing is terrible. You cannot choose to use highway only in the routing preferences and more often than not, the routing goes through roads with stop lights, even when a highway route is available.
I have friends with three year old GPS systems give better routing results and shorter drive times.
用户打分: 用户总结: Fine while it still worked 用户评语: Unit purchased 8/8/08 worked fine for 10 days. Unit would then not Load Maps for over an hour. Powered off the unit, reset User info. via Garmin provided solution. Unit will now boot - however after driving 2-3 miles - screen continually locks up and unit is non-responsive. Read numerous reports of 760/770/780 lockups on other sites. Until Garmin provides a solution- I would not recommend this generation - my Nuvi 680 and '09 Map upgrade has been trouble free for well over a year, and my handheld GPS60CS has been fantastic.
*update* After subsequent FW4.0 upgrade- unit would not get past Loading Maps.... Returning unit to Amazon via RMA for one try at a replacement. Crossing fingers as I've been a happy Garmin customer previously.
*9/10/08 update* Returned and received new 780 from Amazon with next to no hastle. Very smooth return/replace procedure. New unit is functional - but failed to boot a few times with 4.0 Firmware, which has now been pulled by Garmin. Overall - I like the appearance of the new unit - but functionally - I give my older 680 the thumbs up due to more responsive touch screen, one less button to get to MSN, faster response when using menus. Big plus for the 780 is the handling of multi-dest- routing. Would bump rating to 3 stars after replacement, 4 stars if initial unit had not locked up.
